Somedays I still have pinch my self because I cannot believe I am a mom of two already! And not just two but 2 under 2! Never in a millions year would I ever thought I would be able to say that. I am so beyond grateful for my girls. I wish, while preparing for baby girl #2, I would have relaxed and not worried so much. I really didn’t know what to expect welcoming my second baby. I reminder spending hours scoping out the internet for articles and must haves for the postition I was in! Now that I have made it 6 months in with my girls I thought I can finally give my honest opinions when welcoming your second and the must haves to make life a bit easier! So here is my important second child must haves list!
Bringing your New Baby Home
Bringing your new baby home is going to probably be really different than your first baby. You kind of know what to do, what to look for , and the questions to ask. The biggest difference is balancing a little one top of it! So this is why I took the time to curate a second baby must haves list.
Let me start off by saying you got this! No one is a better parent than you are!
So when bringing your baby home pick some important boundaries that you will stick to your guns with for the wellness of your family! The main boundary we stood by was not allowing any visitors over for the first week!
It wasn’t because we were scared of illness or anything like that but we wanted to respect our 18 month olds schedule! No one knows your babies better than you and if you have a toddler that thrives off a schedule you best believe you want to protect that!
After the week was up we found our toddler was more accepting of our second baby! She didn’t seem bothered when people gave attention to the new baby!
Like always YOU know your family the best. Listen to YOUR body as well and stick by the boundaries! I PROMISE you it will pay off!
Keep it Simple with your Second Baby Must Haves List
Now that you ,probably, just figured out you are going to have your second baby just breathe! You have already done this! Don’t over whelm yourself and give your self grace with this amazing time! In fact when it comes to thinking about how you are going to do this just bring your self back a notch! Keep your baby must haves simple! All your babies need is you!
1.Baby Carriers for your Must Haves List
The first must have when having two under two, or your second child, is a baby carrier! Now there are so many varieties but most are very similar! Therefore, a baby carrier is something you will have to try out to figure what brand or style is meant for you!
For the first two weeks you will want to lay low and recover but before you know it you will be ready to get moving again. That being said with having other children you really don’t get to much time to recover unfortunately. And while having a baby bassinet is extremely helpful the worry of having your toddlers possibly try to pick up your new baby can be overhelming. But don’t stress! A baby carrier is the way to go! With baby wearing you get to sneak those extra baby cuddles in even during the mundane parts of life! Before you know it your second child will be wanting to be on the move! So there is no need to worry about holding your baby too much.
My favorite baby carriers:
Now of course, unfortunately, that newborn/baby stage does not last forever! Thinking ahead is not a bad idea in the case of 2 under 2 especially! As always think of what will benefit your family but a stroller wagon was our go-to!
We went with the Baby Trend Expedition 2-in-1 Stroller Wagon because it was a all terrain stroller that had an infant attachment! We love to go places and travel outdoors! And so far this has made life a breeze! Making this wagon stroller a must have!
3.Backpack Diaper Bag
This one you might have already chosen when you where planning your first! This must have is a backpack diaper bag!
I spent the money with my first getting the Fawn Design diaper bag! But there are so many options that it would probably be hard not to find one you like! This is a must for my second child must haves list!
4.Portable Bassinet or Baby Lounger
Another second baby must have that seems to be a bit extra is a portable bassinet. They may not use it long but it is so worth it. Why is it worth it? Because there will be times you may want to free up your hands but keep your baby close while you enjoy one-on-one time with your oldest. Also giving your self a physical break, if baby allows, without putting your baby in another room can be very beneficial.
This is something you don’t have to get picky about due to babies not typically using them very long. But I will share a few below.
Lastly is making an area/ or activities bins for the free moments you get without a baby in your arms. Not only will activities keep your older kids busy but it will give you something to do with them in the short time you may get one-on-one!
If you feel like you’re ever over thinking, anything in life, take away one thing and keep it simple. Simple is the key of easy living. Even during the hard days.
Congratulations on your growing family! I hope you found this second baby must haves list useful! You got this!
