Why Meal Plan Weekly?

Why meal plan you may ask? But the real question is why not? Meal Planning is a simple way to giving your self more free time in your week. And maybe a little extra money in your pocket too!

Whether you are feeding your self or a whole family meal planning is a great habit to start to make each day go as planned!

Getting the Most out of your food when Meal Planning!

When meal planning you can really breakdown every meal you eat and save money! Saving money, especially in the worlds current climate, can really unlock some new skills you would have never thought of before.

For instance, say you wanted to roast a chicken Monday, with some veggies, and then planned on having having some Mexican food on Friday. Then on Tuesday wanted some pot pie! That there I was able to come up with THREE dinner meals with just chicken alone!

When you meal plan you can either purposely make more of something to continue to use as an ingredient! Or you can simply plan how you want to use leftovers! Like many things weekly meal planning can work for you and be adjusted to how your family may work!

What do I need in order to meal plan?

You don’t really need a whole lot in order to meal plan weekly. To help you out I created a FREE weekly meal plan template! Other than that you can go all out and laminate the template to get more than one use! Or just a basic pen or pencil will do the trick!

The most important item you will need ,when meal planning, would be meal ideas! You can Check out my Simple Sourdough Bread Recipe for some inspiration if that helps as well.

Some Places you can get Meal Ideas from:

  1. Pinterest
  2. Cook Books
  3. Make a post on Facebook (twitter, instagram…etc.) asking friend and family for ideas
  4. Youtube

How to Meal Plan?

Filling out the weekly meal planner

Once you got what you needed you can finally sit down and meal plan. You can start off by determining your priority meals.

What are priority meals? you may ask. Priority meals are meals that you for sure eat every single day. For example, in our house house we eat lunch together no matter what due to my husband working second shift. For our family lunch would be a priority meal.

After you determined all your meal ideas for the week write down EVERY single ingredient that you will need in order to successfully make your meals.

Once you have finish doing that you just need to “shop” your kitchen. What I mean by “shop” your kitchen is taking the time to see what you need to buy or restock.

On my free weekly meal planner I made sure to include an abundance of lines for your grocery needs! Too often I found I would run out of room which led to to make a template that was spacious.

Meal Planning to Satisfy your Family

Another benefit from meal planning is that it gives a chance for you whole family to see what is on the list to make. In addition to that meal planning adds opportunity for other members to give some ideas! Nothing is more helpful than having your loved ones help out!
