There is so much love that surrounds the welcoming of a new little life! And you are probably trying to come up with the best gifts for the postpartum period she is going through or about to. I will start by saying don’t over think it! Whether is she is a first time mom or a 5th time mom these gifts will be a blessing in her life!
What kind of postpartum gifts will she love?
This period in any woman’s life is literally life changing, especially for the first time mom. There are so many expectations we, as mothers, that a lot of times we may end up disappointing ourselves. whether we like it or not sometimes objects are not always the best postpartum gifts.
Genuine Postpartum Gestures for Mom as a Postpartum Gift
Now we know the woman your life you want to help just went through the wringer and back. That being acts of service can be one of the best postpartum gifts you could give! And that doesn’t only go for mom but anyone you may care for!
It also isn’t fair to group all moms in one category! There are moms that have had c-sections, unmedicated births. There are even moms that had traumatic births and amazing births! What ever the mom in your mind may fall under they are not like everyone else so it is good to consider their actually interests if not the experience of what they just went through.

For the New Mom
I ,for one, have an extreme soft spot in my heart for new moms. When I had my first (February 2020) the world suddenly went crazy! Now that I am two little ones into this motherhood journey I have really took considerations in to what I really needed when I had my first.
Of course I had to start with new moms! We all have to start somewhere!
Here are some new mom postpartum gift ideas:
- Necklace (or jewelry) with baby, or children’s, birthstone.
This could be any piece of jewelry with anything as a reminder for mom and her new baby.
Afterbirth your body goes through many unexpected changes and water is so important! That makes a water-bottle a very thoughtful postpartum gift!
For Any Mom that Just Gave Birth
There are just somethings any mom would love. These are some great ideas especially after having a baby!
- Do Laundry
Doing laundry, whether is just switching over loads or helping fold, is an awesome task to help with since is is something that will never just go away.
- Food!
Meals are another thing that everyone needs! You can order a meal to their house, or even drop off one at their door step! But don’t make your self at home, this is a time for adjusting to a new normal and entertaining is the last thing that should be on the newly postpartum moms mind! There are many things that you need to consider like, for example, breastfeeding. If you are invited in by the family try to limit the visit to a max of 30 minutes. She will let you know if you should stay longer.
- Do the Dishes!
Who wants to do the dishes when you just gave birth?! Dishes would be a GREAT Postpartum Gift!
- Let her hold her baby!
This seems like a weird one. But this is definitely one of the most important ones to consider! She just spend 9 months growing this beautiful child and she WANTS to hold her baby. Let her offer and if you do hold the baby make sure to do it within a respectful amount of time.
So often you hear people offering to “hold the baby” so mom can get something done and that truthfully is one of the last things a postpartum gift mom wants.

Gifts for Moms of More than One
Now for the more seasoned moms it maybe hard to find or come up with some ideas but here are a couple:
- “Just for her” Gift Card
A gift card to anywhere, whether online or no, that she can use on herself and not family would be such a treat for her! Then she can choose go pack up her new baby and shop or sit on the couch and scroll and “add to cart”.
- Offer to entertain the older kids
She may or may not want to send her older children out of the house. But coming up with activities what mom doesn’t have to plan, or clean up , or even think about is a big plus!
A Breastfeeding/Exclusively Pumping Mom Postpartum Gift

As a breastfeeding mom my self, in my opinion, breastfeeding is the HARDEST part of bringing a new baby into the world! So here are some gifts ideas for those in the same boat:
Yes, I put a water-bottle on the list again! But whether you are breastfeeding or not water is a necessity! This water-bottle I have tagged is from The Little Milk Bar. This is a great gift for the mom that needs the reminder that she is doing a great thing, or to not let the public shame her for feeding her little ones!
- Snacks, snacks, & more snacks!
When you are around a breastfeeding mom make sure you offer her a snack! A mothers body used 25% of the moms energy while the brain only uses 20%! Isn’t that insane!?
Gifts for a Formula Feeding Mom
Fed is best! Breastfeeding is hard a moms have to do what they have to do to care for their babies!
- Offer to Pick up forumla!
Make sure you help a mom who just gave birth a hand with making sure she doesn’t run out of formula! There is nothing worse than it being 2am and your run out!
- Let her feed her baby!
Just because she is formula feeding her new baby doesn’t mean that she wants someone else to feed her baby! Just let her feed her baby!
Gifts for the Stay-at-Home Mom Postpartum Gift
As a stay-at-home mom my self I find I personally just need rest. With being a stay at home mom you are constantly working, there is no break. That being said rest could mean just enjoying your household.
- Take out Gift Cards!
- Some chores checked off her to-do list!
- Something you likes to get keep her mind busy!
What I mean by the last point was to give the mom in your life something for her. When your a stay-at-home mom you are always thinking about your family with extremely little time for her self! So something like a book or crosswords for those down moments to give herself a mental break and a blessing!
This one may seem odd but being that before she knows it she will be in demand again, giving a mother another option to keep her baby close to her is a great way to show her support with a postpartum gift.
For the Working Mom
This is especially helpful if she is also a breastfeeding mom as well! Along with a photo album offer to pick up and purchase any pictures should would like that way when she has to go back to work she has something to cherish.
Helpful Postpartum Tips

I hope this list is helpful when trying to find a sweet way to treat the mom to be in your life.
