Why I came up with Flash Cards your kids can Travel with
My oldest daughter was born right at the beginning of when the world ‘shut down’ and because of that we really never left the house all that often. That being said I, as a new mom, rarely had a chance to go anywhere challenging to experience I had to entertaining my little one on the go. That wasn’t until she was a lot older and I realized I needed to problem solve. That is when I came up with the idea for creating flash cards!
From day one my husband and I realized we did not want to rely on our phone to entertain our children while in the store or a restaurant. And with that decision came the idea! The was just a way of defusing a situation while making sure we could maintain our children without causing a scene.
But you have to keep in mind situations like that are extremely normal and something you shouldn’t be embarrassed about it. Every single parent has or will go through a public tantrum in some form and that is more than okay!
Long story short that is when I realized that color books and crayons are nice they are not as easy to contain! That is when I decided to create my own On-The-Go Flash Cards! I wanted to share this fun and easy project with other parents as well.
How to make your own DIY On-The Go Flash Cards

1. First choose your Theme!
The first step when creating your flashcards is choosing the theme you would like your child to learn about.
Here are some Ideas:
- Farm Animals
- The Water Cycle
- Insects
- Construction Vehicles
- Airplanes
- Dinosaurs
In this case I decided to create and share some free coloring pages! These coloring pages include rain, a flower bud, a flower, and a ladybug!
I wanted to give you something to work with that wasn’t too specific but enough to keep in the same family of my topic of choice being spring!

2. Cut out to your size!
The next step you would want to take after you print or create the flash cards of choice would be to cut to size. Again, this is the part you get to be creative with! You know your child the best and depending on age and interest choosing the size is very important. Especially since want to make your flash cards easy to just carry around with you!

I Decided to cut with the provided lines I have within my coloring pages!
3. Color your Flash Cards!
Now this is the part you can really involve your little in on! Truthfully they could help with each step but this will probably be the most fun step for them!
4. (Optional ) Laminate your Flash Cards!
Alternative Tip: You could laminate your flash cards first and bring along a dry erase maker to make your flash cards last with never-ending fun for your little ones.
This step is very much so optional. If you want your DIY On-The-Go Flash Cards to with stand the wear and tear I would HIGHLY recommend you do this step. But laminating your flash cards is not necessary.
5. Hole Punch & Bind Together

Now for the last step when creating your DIY flash card activity for your toddlers and kids. This is the part of the creative processes that makes this an easy travel activity and that would be to hold punch and hook all your color pages together!
All you have to do is hold punch where you desire, I chose the corner in this case. And after your hole punch where you like you will just have to thread some ribbon, yard, or even a binder hoop though to make sure all the coloring pages stay together!
6. Travel & ENJOY!
The last step would be to store in your diaper bag and enjoy! When creating these flash cards I hope I was able to create enough of a guide so you can choose what will help your child thrive and succeed!
Be sure to share what you ended up doing! Enjoy and have fun making memories!
