Don’t go overboard

Whether you just moved out or you are trying to update you cooking/baking skills sometimes, you may find, simple is the way to go. Focusing on building the skill(s) you need, over what the new latest and greatest air fryer, is key then achieve whatever kitchen goals you may desire. So it comes to comtemplating your kitchen essential desires this is the list to start with!

Where to Look for Kitchen Essentials?

Thrift Stores!

You can never go wrong by checking you local goodwill, or antique shop! Sometimes you just might hit the jack pot! I say this speaking from experience! So than often you may land on some great USA made quality items that you might never find again in the stores!

Another plus when shopping at a thrift store is that it is a lot more affordable! Instead of blowing 50 dollars on mixing bowls you could snag a set for no more than 10 dollars! You just can’t go wrong with that!

From Scratch Kitchen Essentials

1. Heavy Cutting Board

The number one on my kitchen essentials list is most definitely a HEAVY cutting board! so often I found my self always taking the cheap way out of things only do bite the just later. Having a heavy/ thick cutting board helps when you are with a lot of wet foods! The weight from the cutting board will help prevent any accidents from slipping and sliding when you are trying to prepare your food!

2. Cast Iron Skillet

Cast Iron. Don’t even get me started with cast iron! Anything cast iron is great! You don’t have to worry about any harmful non-stick coatings, and it can cut down on dishes. I use my cast irons skillets to bake everything from sourdough cinnamon rolls to chicken fajitas! So versitile just takes a bit of patiences and practice to get the season just right!

Some of the cast irons cookware I enjoy using!

You can also most likely find more cast iron cookware at your local antique shop!

3. A Couple Good Knives

When is there a day you did not need a knife? Especially if you are cooking from scratch you will nee them everyday! Pair it up with a good old knife sharpening black and you will be golden!

If it wasn’t for the knife set we bought when we first moved out, I definitely would have shifted some good knifes!

4. A Slotted Spatula/ or spoon

The point of any slotted untensil is to let out liquid. So think of what you would prefer to work with and use it form more than just what it may be meant for! For example, I just a fish turner because I love how light it is and how is it has just a touch of give. I found mine at the first store!

5. A Large Stock Pot

Whether you make a big pot of soup or homemade bone broth! Having a large stock pot is a kitchen essential for sure!

6. Rubber Spatula

Straight to the point! Perfect for getting every last drop of sauce of the sides of the jar OR frosting a cake!

7. Funnel

A funnel is definitely nice to have when you cook a lot of homemade foods! I lived a long time without one but now that I have one I find it definitely to be a kitchen essenital!

8. Ladle

For the days a wooden spoon is just not cutting it!

9. Baking Sheet

Making bagel? Or making cookies? A baking sheet is a kitchen essential due to having multiple uses out of one item!

10. Whisk

12. A Large & Medium Sized Mixing Bowl

In our ,from scratch, kitchen we find the bigger the bowl the better! Either way mixing bowls are a kitchen essential no doubt!

13. Blender

Prior to learning how to cook from scratch I really never used a blender outside of making smoothies. BUT I had just realized how to make butter in the blender! Best and most productive hack yet!

14. A couple wooden Spoons

This one, I think, speaks for itself.

15. Cheese Grater

And last, but not least, a cheese grater! We prefer to buy block cheese over pre shredded due to being a healthier option making this a kitchen essential for us!

Garlic Mincer

Again, this is a luxury but can save you a lot of time in the long run!

Enjoy the Journey!

Cooking and providing for your home is suppose to be enjoyable! Everything I have listed you can easily find at any local thrift store! Save your money and invest in skill and quality food!

Happy Cooking!
