Why the Maggots Might have found a home in your Compost.
Did you accidentally put some meat in your compost? Or perhaps some bone broth scrapes (like I did)! Either way at this point it doesn’t really matter how they got there because they are already there. No need to worry though because as much as they are unpleasant to look at they shouldn’t be around long if you just stick to these EXTREMELY simple steps!
Feeding your compost…
So let’s just say you have not a clue where or when they got there but they are there in your compost and thriving! Thats okay! If that is the case then that most likely could be due your compost receiving too many ‘greens’. You can go check out my How to Start a Compost post to see the difference between greens and browns. So if that is the case you will want to start getting heavy handed with your browns! And when I say heavy handed I mean it!
In the mean time if you find you can’t stomach turning your compost that is alright just wait till your compost is ‘dry’ enough to add some greens and turn! No need to over complicate! You got this!
I tried but the Maggots are still there!
Now lets say you dedicated brown to your compost but they are still there! Next things you will want to look at is if there is good air circulation!
Now this will very from person to person and how they like to have their compost set up! Leave a comment down below to let us know what kind of compost you have!
